Hot Oil Units

Regal Series, Up to 500°F

Advantage hot-oil units are for process temperatures that exceed what water-based circulation can safely and reliably hold.

Overview

Advantage Regal Series hot-oil units (RK models) circulate thermal oil instead of water, at 30 to 100 GPM, from 100°F up to 500°F. Oil is the correct fluid choice above the practical range of water circulation - water flashes to steam well below 500°F under normal system pressure, while oil stays liquid and stable across the full range these units are built for.

Typical applications include die-casting processes that run hotter than a water-based die-preheat unit can reach, extrusion die and barrel temperature control, and reactor-jacket heating where the jacket needs to be held at a high, steady temperature.

Hot-oil systems require different seals, piping materials and pump construction than water units, which is why they're a distinct product line rather than the same frame with a hotter rating. Tell us the target setpoint, flow rate, and the process connection so we can confirm oil compatibility with your piping and jacket materials.

  • 100°F to 500°F, 30 to 100 GPM, 12 to 48 kW heaters
  • Advantage Regal Series: RK-H heating-only and RK-HC heating and cooling models
  • Used where water-based circulation can't reach the required setpoint safely

Confirming Oil Service Fits Your Process

Once a required setpoint sits above roughly 300°F, oil isn't an upgrade over water - it's the only fluid that stays liquid and stable at that temperature under normal system pressure. Piping, seals and pump construction on an Advantage hot-oil unit are built for that duty from the start, which is also why an existing water TCU can't simply be run hotter to close the gap.

Piping and jacket material compatibility with hot oil matters as much as the temperature and flow numbers - tell us what the existing process piping and jacket are built from so we can confirm compatibility before finalizing a system.

HOT OIL VS. WATER SERVICE

Factor Water TCU (Up to 300°F) Hot Oil TCU (Regal, Up to 500°F)
Setpoint range Up to 300°F 300°F to 500°F
Flow 35-100 GPM 30-100 GPM
Seals & piping Standard water-service construction Oil-compatible seals and piping required
Typical use Hot-runner molds, laminating, standard die preheat High-temp die casting, extrusion, reactor-jacket heating

An existing water TCU can't simply be run hotter to reach oil-service temperatures - the seals and piping aren't built for it. Call and talk it through with an engineer: 1-805-484-2992.

Hot Oil Units - Frequently Asked Questions

Water flashes to steam well below 500°F under normal system pressure, and a water unit's seals and pump aren't built for oil service even at lower temperatures. Above roughly 300°F, oil is the correct and only reliable fluid path, not a pressurized water workaround.

Possibly - it depends on what your existing process piping and jacket are built from. Tell us the materials in place and we'll confirm compatibility with hot oil service before finalizing a system, rather than discovering an issue during installation.

A thermal transfer oil rated for the unit's operating range - we'll confirm the specific fluid recommendation once we know your target setpoint and any process compatibility requirements.
