Advantage Outdoor Glycol Chillers

1.5 to 210 HP

A weatherproof Advantage glycol package that stays outside all year - freeze protection is built into the fluid, not just the cabinet.

Overview

Advantage outdoor glycol chillers combine a weatherproof enclosure with a glycol-rated evaporator and pump, so the unit can sit on a pad outside year-round without draining down for winter. This is the standard configuration for breweries and distilleries running an outdoor glycol loop, and for any plant that would rather not find mechanical-room space at all.

As with the indoor units, single-zone and dual-zone configurations are both available across the 1.5 to 210 HP range - dual zone where the process needs two independent glycol temperatures from one outdoor package.

See the BG series for the full part-number line-up of every Advantage outdoor glycol model on this page, from the smaller weatherproof NEMA 4 cabinets up through OACS-platform units adapted for glycol duty.

  • 1.5 to 210 HP, single or dual zone
  • Weatherproof enclosure, no mechanical room required
  • Standard configuration for brewery and distillery glycol loops
Configuration Range Notes
Single Zone 1.5 to 210 HP One glycol temperature plant-wide
Dual Zone 1.5 to 210 HP Two independent glycol temperatures from one frame
Enclosure NEMA 4 (small) / weatherproof cabinet (large) No mechanical room or duct routing required

Why Breweries Default to Outdoor Glycol

A brewery or distillery glycol loop is a natural fit for an outdoor Advantage package: the equipment is already weatherproof by requirement (it runs year-round regardless of building HVAC), and putting the chiller outside frees mechanical-room or production-floor space for tanks, kegging lines or barrel storage instead. The glycol fill itself provides the freeze protection the fluid needs at typical 25-28°F brewery setpoints; the cabinet's weatherproof rating protects the electronics and controls, not the process fluid.

As with indoor units, propylene glycol is the standard choice anywhere the loop touches fermentation jackets, glycol-jacketed tanks, or other product-adjacent surfaces. Confirm your target temperature and glycol type at quote time so pump and reservoir sizing match the actual mix.

Give us these and we'll size the pad, mix and unit together:

  • Required leaving fluid temperature and single- vs. dual-zone need
  • Glycol type - food-grade propylene or industrial ethylene
  • Site ambient design conditions (winter low, summer high)
  • Pad location and available electrical service
  • Number of tanks or loops the chiller will feed

Outdoor Glycol Chiller FAQ

The glycol fill protects the process fluid itself. The cabinet, controls and any exposed piping still need the standard low-ambient protections (heat trace, insulation, low-ambient control package) appropriate to your site's winter design temperature - flag your climate at quote time.

It depends on the target fermentation-jacket temperature, but many brewery loops run near a 25°F leaving fluid temperature, which sets the propylene glycol percentage needed for adequate freeze margin below that. See the Glycol & Low-Temperature Guide for the general relationship between temperature and mix.

A single loop from an Advantage glycol chiller delivers one shared glycol temperature to every tank on it. If different tanks need different setpoints from the same chiller, pair it with a BC-SCC tank control cabinet, which lets each tank modulate its own glycol flow independently off the shared supply.

Outdoor is the more common default for new brewery construction because it frees production-floor space and avoids duct or tower routing. Indoor becomes the better fit when the site has security, noise-ordinance, or extreme-climate reasons to keep the equipment inside a conditioned space.
