APT-RC Series Air-Cooled Chilling Modules

Refrigeration Only, Built to Pair With a Pump Tank Station

APT-RC is Advantage's air-cooled central chilling module line — the refrigeration side only: compressor(s), evaporator and a remote air-cooled condensing section, with no integral reservoir or process pump. That's a deliberate design, not a missing feature. A module is built to parallel onto a pump tank station a plant already has (or specifies alongside it), which makes it the right tool for adding tonnage to an existing chilled-fluid loop rather than replacing a working system just to get more capacity. Twenty-two standard modules cover roughly 5 to 180 tons each, across single-, dual- and triple-zone configurations.

Say this plainly before requesting a quote, because it changes what you're buying: every APT-RC module requires a separate pump tank station to actually circulate fluid through your process. If you don't already have one sized and in place, that's a second line item to plan for and size correctly — reservoir volume, pump head and flow all have to match both the module's evaporator flow requirement and your process loop's actual friction loss, not just the module's tonnage.

Multiple modules can run against the same pump tank station to reach a plant-wide total well beyond what any single packaged chiller carries — the largest single APT-RC module tops out at 180 tons (CCC-180APT-RC), and paralleling modules is how Advantage-equipped plants reach 300 tons and, in custom-engineered combinations, beyond that. Two of these modules are worth flagging by name before you spec off the part number alone: CC-100APT-RC and CCC-150APT-RC publish actual cooling capacities of 90 and 135 tons respectively — the "100" and "150" in their model numbers track total compressor horsepower (4×25 HP and 6×25 HP), not tonnage. Size and quote both units off their real published tonnage, not the number printed in the part number.

Each module's remote condensing section ships on its own refrigerant line set, sized against the compressor's charge and oil-return limits for the actual indoor-to-outdoor run — vertical lift, total equivalent length and elbow count all have to be checked before that run is finalized, which is a conversation to have with us before the module ships, not after it's installed.

A Module Is Only Half the System

Every APT-RC module ships without a reservoir or process pump, and it's easy to price the module and stop there. Don't. The pump tank station it runs against has to be sized to the module's actual evaporator flow requirement and your process loop's friction loss — not just picked from a catalog by "the tank that looks about right for this tonnage." An undersized pump starves flow at the process connection even with the module delivering full refrigeration capacity upstream; an undersized reservoir lets the loop short-cycle the compressor.

If you're adding a module to an existing pump tank station, send us that station's current pump curve, reservoir volume and how many other modules already run against it. If you're specifying both together, send us the process loop's flow and head requirement along with the tonnage, and we'll size the module and the station as one system rather than two separate guesses. Sizing an APT-RC module comes down to five numbers: the actual heat load in tons, the required process fluid temperature, the number of independent zones needed, the pump tank station's available flow and head (existing or being specified alongside it), and the process connection size. Send us those five and we'll confirm the module and the station sizing together rather than treating them as separate quotes.

Common FAQs

No — APT-RC is refrigeration only (compressor, evaporator and a remote air-cooled condensing section). Every module requires a separate pump tank station to circulate fluid through your process loop.

Its model number tracks total compressor horsepower (4×25 HP = 100 HP), not tonnage. The published, actual cooling capacity is 90 tons — size and quote this unit off that figure. The same pattern applies to the CCC-150APT-RC (6×25 HP = 150 HP, 135 tons actual).

Yes — multiple modules can parallel onto the same station to reach a plant-wide total well beyond what any single packaged chiller carries. Send us the station's existing pump curve and reservoir volume along with the additional tonnage you need.

APT-RC modules are air-cooled with a remote condensing section on its own line set. WPT modules are water-cooled, rejecting heat to condenser water instead, with no remote condenser or outdoor footprint. Both require a separate pump tank station.

An Advantage APT-RC module has two process connections. Process Water In is piped rigidly from the pump tank station, which sends warm return water from the process to the module. Process Water Out goes to the chilled side of the station's reservoir, and the station's pump supplies the process. Put a high-volume basket strainer or bag filter, 20 mesh (400 micron) or finer, with isolation valves on the incoming line; wye strainers don't hold enough debris. Piping must be rated for 100°F and 100 PSI and be at least connection size. Insulate the lines to prevent condensation and capacity loss.

The refrigerant piping between the module and its remote condenser is field supplied and installed: refrigerant-grade copper joined with high-temperature phos-copper, never soft solder or water pipe. The installer adds discharge line check valves after the oil separator, shut-off valves in the hot gas and liquid lines, relief valves and recovery ports at the condenser, and inverted traps. Support the lines near the coil on runs longer than 50 ft. A certified refrigeration technician evacuates and charges the system under load. Advantage builds the refrigerant receiver and oil separator into every APT-RC module, so those are not field items.

Yes. Each APT-RC module runs on Advantage's MZC III multizone instrument with one intelligent zone board per refrigeration circuit, and those zone boards can connect to a Titan chiller's display board, so the added capacity runs as part of the same system. One instrument handles up to six refrigeration circuits. On dual and triple circuit modules each circuit runs independently, which gives finer capacity staging and lets the other circuits keep cooling while one is down. Modbus RTU or SPI is standard; Modbus TCP and a remote display are options.
