WPT Series Water-Cooled Chilling Modules

No Remote Condenser, No Outdoor Footprint

WPT is Advantage's water-cooled central chilling module line — the refrigeration side only: compressor(s) and evaporator, rejecting heat to condenser water instead of an air-cooled coil, with no integral reservoir or process pump. Twenty-two standard modules cover roughly 5 to 180 tons each, across single-, dual- and triple-zone configurations, built to parallel onto a pump tank station a plant already has or is specifying alongside it.

Say this plainly before requesting a quote, because it changes what you're buying, exactly as it does on the air-cooled APT-RC module line: every WPT module requires a separate pump tank station to actually circulate fluid through your process loop. There's no condenser fan, no remote line set and no outdoor footprint to plan for — WPT trades that for a condenser water requirement, and here's the honest state of the data: Advantage's own published specifications for the WPT line do not state a condenser-water flow rate or pressure-drop figure for any of the 22 models in this series. We're not going to invent one. Confirm your tower or city-water flow, pressure drop and supply temperature directly with us before finalizing the condenser-water connection on any WPT module — we'll size it against the specific unit's evaporator and compressor duty.

Multiple WPT modules can run against the same pump tank station to reach a plant-wide total well beyond what any single packaged chiller carries, the same way APT-RC modules do — the largest single WPT module tops out at 180 tons (CCC-180WPT). If you're weighing an air-cooled APT-RC module against a water-cooled WPT module at the same tonnage, the decision comes down to whether the plant already has tower or city water piped to the equipment location and whether that water is metered against a utility cost; if it is, run the numbers before defaulting to WPT just because a water-cooled module has a smaller footprint than the equivalent air-cooled module and its remote condenser.

WPT model numbers are a nominal size, not a rating. C-20WPT, for example, is rated 19 tons at standard conditions. Every WPT part-number page on this site leads with the rated capacity, so the number you see here is the one to quote and size against.

WPT water-cooled module with a condenser water loop to the tower and a chilled water loop to the pump tank station

Confirm Condenser Water Before You Commit to WPT

A water-cooled module looks simple on paper — no remote condenser, no line set, no outdoor footprint — but it shifts the sizing problem onto the condenser water supply instead. Advantage's own published data for this line doesn't state a flow rate or pressure-drop figure per model, which means that number has to come from an actual conversation about your specific unit, your tower or city-water source, and your plant's water chemistry, not from a table on this page.

Before ordering a WPT module, get us your available condenser-water supply temperature, your tower or city-water pressure at the connection point, and whether that water is metered or already free/reclaimed. We'll confirm the actual flow and pressure-drop requirement for the specific module tonnage you need rather than letting you assume a number that was never published. Call and talk it through with an engineer: 1-805-484-2992

Sizing a WPT module comes down to five numbers: the actual heat load in tons, the required process fluid temperature, the number of independent zones needed, the pump tank station's available flow and head, and your condenser water supply's temperature and available pressure. Send us those five (call for the condenser-water figure if you don't have it yet) and we'll confirm the module and connection sizing together.

Common FAQs

No — like the air-cooled APT-RC line, WPT is refrigeration only. Every module requires a separate pump tank station to circulate fluid through your process loop.

Advantage's own published data doesn't state a flow rate or pressure-drop figure for any WPT model, and we won't invent one here. Call or request a quote with your tower or city-water supply details and we'll size the connection against the specific unit's evaporator and compressor duty.

The number in the model name is a nominal size, not a rating - C-20WPT, for example, is rated 19 tons at standard conditions. Every WPT part-number page leads with the rated capacity, so size and quote against that figure rather than the number in the model name.

Air-cooled APT-RC needs no plant water but requires a line-set run to an outdoor or rooftop condensing section. Water-cooled WPT needs a tower or city-water supply but has a smaller footprint with no remote condenser. See our Air-Cooled vs Water-Cooled guide, or call and we'll help you decide.

Advantage designs WPT modules for condenser water at 85°F maximum. Tower water is the usual source, though city or well water also works, and a water regulating valve on the module varies condenser flow with refrigerant discharge pressure. Install a 40 mesh or finer basket strainer ahead of the module to keep debris out of the condenser; basket types hold more than wye strainers. The condenser is cleanable and has a single-point water connection with isolation valves. WPT modules are built for indoor use, in a clean, dry, well-ventilated space.

Run a four-conductor supply cable from a customer-supplied fused disconnect, sized to the module's power requirement and local code, to the power entry terminal block. Advantage leaves no power entry hole in the cabinet, so the electrician cuts one to suit the fittings. Supply voltage must be within 10% of nameplate and within 2% leg to leg. Size the disconnect and wiring on full load amps, not running amps. Components sit in a UL508A panel with branch circuit protection and a standard 5 kA SCCR, and a unit-specific wiring drawing ships with the module.

Yes, but not on plain water. Advantage ships the control with a 48 to 90°F setpoint range. To go colder, fill the loop with inhibited propylene glycol, never automotive antifreeze, confirm the concentration with a refractometer, then reset the low refrigerant pressure limits and freezestats to match before the control is unlocked for lower setpoints. Too much glycol causes capacity and control problems, so mix to the chart rather than guessing. Expect less capacity when running cold: published tonnage at 25°F leaving fluid is roughly 60% of the 50°F rating.
